Hello, I am a baking and pastry student and I have recently begun taking chocolate class. This infrared thermometer in so much more accurate than candy thermometers and meat thermometers, even digital thermometers, for tempering chocolate. I absolutely love it! I bought this red-colored one so no one would mistake it for their own and, so far, that has worked out. I love it! The battery was easy to install, too.
Take accurate temperature readings with this laser-sighted infrared gun-style thermometer. Reads in Celsius or Fahrenheit, there is a switch on the pannel to choose between them. There's also a switch to turn on or off the laser sight. This Non-contact Infrared Thermometer w/ Laser Sight works well so far. It is about a two to four degrees off, so if you need some really critical temperature readings you may want to spend a few more dollars. This is fun to use also! Like so many products today, the directions are always the best - like it tells you to insert the battery, but it has no description of how to open the battery compartment, which is the entire front of the handle under the trigger. It used a standard 9v. battery. It has no off/on switch - just squeeze the trigger and aim. The display shows for about 8-10 seconds. The shipper needs a lesson on boxing a shipment. The ends of the box were open and it is amazing this did not fall out in transit.
The item arrived on time and it has performed very well. I use it for my soap making. I've compared it with other tempeture measuring devices and this thing is spot on. It didn't get 5 stars only because it feels like a toy in my hand but it's light weight hasn't let me down yet.
Assuming it is relatively accurate, which it appears to be (+/- 2% or 2C), this is a great little tool. Admittedly, I haven't found a ton of uses for it yet, but it is interesting for comparing new windows to old windows (10F difference in surface temp). The backlight and laser both work great and add to the ease of use. Battery life seems plentiful as well. Overall a great product, especially if you can find a regular use for it!
It is so easy to use and so fast that you will want to check the temperature of everything you are making. The water/yeast mixture for a pizza crust needs to be at 110 degree? No problem. Hum, I wonder how cold my fridge is really getting my food? How hot is that tea anyway? These and countless other pressing questions can be answered with the pull of the trigger.
