Thermal Leak Detector

Product Description

Heating and cooling accounts for about 50 percent of your energy usage, but the average house has enough leaks and drafts to equal a 1 sq. ft. hole. Cut down on wasteful spending with the help of the Thermal Leak Detector from Black and Decker .The TLD100 is an infrared sensor that finds these leaks along walls, molding, ductwork and more. Auto color change provides quick, intuitive feedback, showing users where to caulk, insulate, etc.

The Black & Decker thermal leak detector helps you increase the efficiency of your home's insulation by finding leaky areas that can lead to higher heating and cooling bills. You'll instantly identify problem areas around drafty windows and doors, and uncover hidden leaks and insulation "soft spots" around your home. Check windows, ducts, and walls with the thermal reference light that indicates hot and cold spots. You can even use the detector to diagnose engine misfires or check your refrigerator and freezer settings.

Easy-to-Read Color Coding and Screen
The thermal leak detector makes it easy to monitor your home's energy efficiency by finding areas that let heat out and cold air in. Simply set the detector's temperature tolerances to one, five, or 10 degrees and scan the light across the area you want to inspect. The light will change to red for warmer spots and blue for cooler spots to detect air leaks in both warm and cool weather. The detector also displays temperatures in either Fahrenheit or Celsius on the LCD screen. Check for drafts or leaks around your fireplace, recessed lighting, electrical outlets, along floor molding, or any place that may have improper seals, caulking, or seams that aren't immediately visible. An included booklet gives you tips and instructions on how to seal leaks and improve insulation.

Cut Energy Bills and Improve Your Home's Efficiency
Sealing the leaks and improving insulation in your home can help you save as much as 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills. An efficient, greener home will stay cooler in summer and warmer in winter, increasing its resale value.

Multiple Uses to Handle Uncommon Tasks
Use the thermal leak detector to check your refrigerator and freezer temperatures and efficiency. Diagnose engine problems related to overheating or coolant leaks to avoid costly repairs and mechanic bills down the road. The thermal leak detector can also check the operation of your HVAC system, so you can perform preventative maintenance as needed.

The Black & Decker thermal leak detector is covered by a two-year warranty.

Hello, I am a baking and pastry student and I have recently begun taking chocolate class. This infrared thermometer in so much more accurate than candy thermometers and meat thermometers, even digital thermometers, for tempering chocolate. I absolutely love it! I bought this red-colored one so no one would mistake it for their own and, so far, that has worked out. I love it! The battery was easy to install, too.

Take accurate temperature readings with this laser-sighted infrared gun-style thermometer. Reads in Celsius or Fahrenheit, there is a switch on the pannel to choose between them. There's also a switch to turn on or off the laser sight. 1 x 9V DC battery
1 x Nubee® NUB8380 Temperature Gun User's manual

This Non-contact Infrared Thermometer w/ Laser Sight works well so far. It is about a two to four degrees off, so if you need some really critical temperature readings you may want to spend a few more dollars. This is fun to use also! Like so many products today, the directions are always the best - like it tells you to insert the battery, but it has no description of how to open the battery compartment, which is the entire front of the handle under the trigger. It used a standard 9v. battery. It has no off/on switch - just squeeze the trigger and aim. The display shows for about 8-10 seconds. The shipper needs a lesson on boxing a shipment. The ends of the box were open and it is amazing this did not fall out in transit.

The item arrived on time and it has performed very well. I use it for my soap making. I've compared it with other tempeture measuring devices and this thing is spot on. It didn't get 5 stars only because it feels like a toy in my hand but it's light weight hasn't let me down yet.

Assuming it is relatively accurate, which it appears to be (+/- 2% or 2C), this is a great little tool. Admittedly, I haven't found a ton of uses for it yet, but it is interesting for comparing new windows to old windows (10F difference in surface temp). The backlight and laser both work great and add to the ease of use. Battery life seems plentiful as well. Overall a great product, especially if you can find a regular use for it!

It is so easy to use and so fast that you will want to check the temperature of everything you are making. The water/yeast mixture for a pizza crust needs to be at 110 degree? No problem. Hum, I wonder how cold my fridge is really getting my food? How hot is that tea anyway? These and countless other pressing questions can be answered with the pull of the trigger.

If you were ever curious how hot or cold some thing is like me this is the tool for the job. All you do is point and pull the trigger you will have your answer in no time. Works good has a lazer pointer, a lighted display, and measures in celsius and fahrenheit. uses a 9 volt battary below trigger in handle and is fairly accurate depending on how close the gun is to the area or thing that you may be pointing at at that time. Usefull tool for diagnosing or just for screwing around.

The evening it came, I gave it a try. The temperature is way off.. on both ends of the scale.
Using a digital cooking thermometer, I measured hot and cold water running at the tap, the
BAFX was at least 10 degrees low on the low side and 20 degrees off on the high side. THen
I measured some copper heating pipes. I have two loops that have input and outflow themometers .. input was about 160 degrees on both supplies. The BAFX indicatred 110! Then I measured the supply to the (zone) hot water heater. The BAFX reported 82 degrees, yet, I could not hold my hand on the pipe.. it must have been much higher than 82!! Returned to Amazon the next day.

PART 2: BAFX Customer support emailed me. If I was interested, he would arrange
to ship me a new unit. If I liked it, I could keep it and pay for it, if not he would include
a return pre-paid label. I was impressed with his support, so I agreed. I've had it about 2 weeks
now. It works just as described and correlated very closely with the other (kitchen/room)
thermometers around the house. Though the first one failed, with good customer support
and the second one working, I would recommend this to anyone interested in one.

Got this thermometer yesterday afternoon and was able to put the battery in all by myself (oh yeah, I am that handy, lol), and it worked. Haven't really used it to test anything yet but I like it. I even read the directions on how to use it and how not to use it. I also like the yellow color because it is easy to spot in my kitchen drawer. I am planning on using it for testing my oven temperature and now after reading the directions, I will test skillets and maybe even foreheads for fevers. Also, the numbers are large enough that you can actually read them. Yeaa.

Don't keep looking any longer, this is the one to get without worrying if you got a good one, and got a good price. I use this much more than I thought I ever would. I keep it in the drawer my the stove just so I can keep track of everything as it heats up. You will like this.

The first one I received was HORRIBLY inaccurate. Off by about 50 degrees, and yes, I was using the correct mode. The "sensor" appeared well off center in the housing and the laser was way out of alignment. Maybe it was dropped somewhere before it got to me.

The replacement was tip top. When compared to another known calibrated unit, the replacement was pretty much spot on. The laser was also adequately aligned. No complaints. For the $$, a very good IR thermometer.
